Day 5 Lion's Head to Leap HS- amazng new heights!
GREETINGS…
Julia and I both started our adventures by hiking up Table Mountain and Lion’s Head; then real highlight of the day started when we met both the Leap High School students as well as the students from iThuba. Though we are from different places on the globe, we connected very quickly and found many similarities between us. Julia and I also had the privilege of connecting with different students in Cambodia for a short period of time. These opportunities allowed us to connect with various people, expanding our empathy and nurturing bonds with people that can not be broken, even with the vast amount of distance between us.
Specifically, I greatly enjoyed connecting with two students, one from Leap High School, and one who is participating in iThuba. We all connected over our love for TV shows and pop culture musical artists. I greatly enjoyed connecting without the sense of departure looming over my shoulder, and I can not wait until I see them again tomorrow and over this next week. I am excited to see just how much our relationship can grow in a short period of time.

Julia- As I reflect on the day I had connecting with Leap High School students, I especially appreciated the opportunity to nurture these bonds throughout the week and explore the lives of others around me. I met with two students in individual groups this evening and my heart instantly expanded. Getting to know these students reminded me of just another evening at home with my siblings that’s full of laughter, controversy, and excitement. Finding out if Drake or Kendrick Lamar is more popular among the youth in Cape Town was a truly hilarious moment, and sharing my favorite hobbies and finding out they’re the same as my new Leap High School friends’ hobbies was thrilling. Overall I’m beyond grateful that I get these special opportunities to see and appreciate lives outside of my own.
